Ticket booking app YPlan secures big investment

We’ve known for a while now that apps are big business. Angel investors and even venture capital firms have shown time and again that they’re willing to pump big money into fledgling mobile apps.

The latest of these is YPlan, a last-minute ticket booking app created by a London start-up, which has just secured £8m in investments to expand to the US.

A number of prominent tech investors have backed the deal.  These include venture capital firms and the curious figure of Ashton Kutcher, the Hollywood actor.  The investors have form when picking winners, as they have previously backed Spotify and the cab-booking app Hailo, while Kutcher recently had success investing in Summly, a smartphone app recently bought by Yahoo.

YPlan is the brainchild of two former city boys Victoras Jucikas and Rytis Vitkauskas, who tried numerous ideas before striking gold with their gift to spontaneous ticket bookers.  It’s the 51st idea they tested before coming up with YPlan, which became an instant hit when it was launched in November 2012. It’s claimed that 10 per cent of all iPhone users in the capital have tried it.
