Sony to Take Full Control of Sony Ericsson Mobile Company

Sony officially joins the competitive world of mobile phone manufacturing after a recent announcement of acquisition. The electronics manufacturing giant recently announced the full takeover of Sony Ericsson. The 50% ownership of Ericsson was bought by Sony for €1.05 billion or $1.5 billion. The announcement doesn’t mean immediate takeover as Sony is still in the process of completing the transition. The company, “Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB” will now be known as “Sony Mobile Communications AB”.
The full control of Sony on its former partnership can be considered as a risky yet a very bold move that should result to more innovations on the part of Sony. Before its full takeover, Sony cannot easily integrate some of their trademark devices on Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
But this doesn’t mean the partnership did not make any impression in the mobile market. The partnership of Sony and Ericsson is the main reason why brands such as “Cybershot” and “Walkman” still exist. The idea of high-resolution cameras on mobile phones as well as integration of quality music on mobile phones is championed by Sony Ericsson.
Since Sony is now in full control, anticipate aggressive integration of Sony to their existing devices. PS3 or PlayStation 3, PSP and Sony TV can be part of the mobile phone environment. The year 2012 should be interesting for Sony as it tries its hand on the mobile industry.
The partnership of Sony and Ericsson started in 2001. The venture combines the capability of Sony on consumer electronics with communication technology expertise of Ericsson.
